Reconstruction of the main street 1. oktobra in Bela Crkva finally begins

The long-awaited reconstruction of the main street 1. oktobra in Bela Crkva, which will completely change the visual identity of the southern Banat town, will finally begin this year.

The local government has signed a contract with the contractor, who will start working as soon as the weather allows. According to earlier announcements, the first step will be the construction of a facility for collecting atmospheric water, as well as redirecting drains to the peripheral canal network. This will finally solve the 300-year-old problem of draining all municipal drains through the middle of the 1,159-meter long street.

Next, the construction of a new road, parking spaces, pedestrian paths, public lighting, and landscaping of green public areas will follow. The lowest parts of the street will be raised to a certain level, and instead of the canal that runs through the middle of the road, there will be green islands.

This is, in fact, the most capital project in the southern Banat town in the last decade, which is fully financed by the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. It is worth 633 million dinars – equivalent to the entire annual budget of Bela Crkva. According to experts, the Prvog oktobra Street is one of the strangest main streets in the country, because, among other things, parking spaces in its widest part are located in the middle of the road, while the road is mostly sloping, resembling an open book.
