Estonian finance minister Mart Vorklaev announced today that the Estonian government is considering closing the Koidula border crossing with Russia at night, similar to what was done in Narva.

„There are two reasons for this. Firstly, it will mean stricter monitoring of sanctions. Transport flow has decreased and the border with Russia should not be kept open at night. Secondly, it will save money,“ he told the state radio station ERR.

However, according to the radio station, closing the border crossing at night may have negative economic consequences for nearby settlements, as reported by TASS.

ERR had previously reported that according to the government decision, the Narva crossing will operate from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., while the Koidula and Luhama crossings will remain open 24 hours a day.
